Training

MeThe amount of money spent on the lead up the Beijing selection trails left me no choice than to return to Australia and try to gain sponsorship that would allow me to continue training in Europe. Needless to say I was unsuccessful in capturing the interest of sponsors from Australia for a rider based in Europe. Without sponsorship and limited funds I have returned to the circuit, which makes me more determined to gain my dream.

Imke Schellekens-Bartels continued to train Ferero while I was home and competed him in the World Dressage Masters in Munich gaining a score of 70%. This great score made me more determined to return to Europe and has inspired me knowing Ferero’s potential. I have now returned to Europe and based myself at Academy Bartels. My discipline and workout routine has not changed from the 6 day a week schedule other than refining the Grand Prix test with a plan to devise a completely new Kur performance. Ferero is in magnificent form and has matured considerably since his last competition almost 12 months ago. I am confident with the guiding hand of my trainer Imke Schellekens-Bartels that our combination will attain even higher percentage points at the European show circuit. It is now time to think ahead and concentrate on gaining the highest points possible to be a serious contender for selection to the Australian team heading to Kentucky in September.

Chantal and Ferero are at Academy Bartels

Chantal Wigan and Ferero are at their European base, Academy Bartels with trainer Imke Schellekens-Bartels. Chantal has entered 2010 training with Ferero and believes the rest period from the circuit has let him mature. Academy Bartels has a proven record and caring personal that show empathy towards the horse as an athlete. It is comforting to know that I will have such and experienced team behind my every move.

My Training philosophy is “Softness, elasticity and engagement.
