Training

MeIt has been a long wait to achieve my dream of coming back to Europe to train in earnest for the ultimate goal of the Beijing 2008 Olympics.  If there is a remote chance you might represent your country in this sport, you’ll have to dedicate a large amount of money and time to train at the heart of Equestrian Super Sports; which is Germany or Holland.

My journey has not been a recent revelation but it came closer to reality after following through with an invitation from Mr. Will Knijff of “Independence Stables” in Holland to be his guest at the World Games in Aachen, Germany in September 2006.  It was during this trip I visited numerous stables and trainers for an up to date insight on who’s, who in Europe.  It became very evident that a vast amount of cash was needed to sustain a serious training regiment that would make my goal achievable.

I have now been in Europe with both my horses “Ferero” and "River Gold" Training at Academy Bartels.  My discipline and workout routine has not changed from the 6 day a week schedule other than refining the Grand Prix test and learning a completely new Kur performance.  Ferero has been in magnificent form and well rested after I was forced to take a break in training for medical reasons.  Ferero’s performances have improved since his CDI debut in Spain. Under the guiding hand of my trainer Imke Schellekens-Bartels we are confident to attain our higher percentage points at the European show circuit.

Chantal and Ferero are at Academy Bartels

Chantal Wigan and both her horses Ferero and River Gold are at their new European base, Academy Bartels with trainer Imke Schellekens-Bartels. Chantal has entered 2008 training with Ferero and believes her timely move from training in Germany will help her consolidate Ferero's potential in the Grand Prix competition arena. Academy Bartels is picture perfect with warm and caring personal. It is comforting to know that I will have such and experienced team behind my every move.
